This
Month in History:
The Epistle to Morty
From the Complotus Judae Romana,
found in a sealed jar near the Dead Sea in 1976 by a tribe of nomadic
restauranteurs.
Now on a certain day the Jews met to discuss matters relating
to the Gentiles.
2. And they wished to confound them.
3. Yet they wished not to forsake the leaden water systems the Gentiles
called plomb, for to sit on them was a comfort.
4. And it happened, as they were perplexed about this, that behold,
a feast was served which was mainly the remains of last night’s
feast reheated, and they partook of chicken’s livers, and
smoked fish, and fish that was not smoked but gefilted, and shmaltzed,
and cold meat which they made into sandwiches, but lo, they did
grumble about the flatness of their bread, and did say, “One
day we must leaven our bread, and add caraway seeds.”
5. Then one amongst them spoke, saying “These Gentiles
will believe in many Gods, so why do we not give them another, who
will Sermon them about Meekness, and Mercy, and Peacemaking, and
Purity of Heart, for it might stop their constant disemboweling
of others, which is disgusting, frankly, and hard on the furniture
though it be of stone, and perhaps make them at least bearable to
have around.”
6. And thinking upon this, another said, “I have a concession
to sell Lions to the Coliseum of Rome, and it is lagging,
but in this plan I prophesy a way that business might pick up a
little.”
7. And behold, his neighbor said, “Can we shroud this up?
I have to go begat in an hour.”
